The Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill Research Triangle is in the center of North Carolina and is formed by North Carolina State University (Raleigh), Duke University (Durham), and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Chapel Hill). There are multiple definitions of The Research Triangle region, but the broadest definition of the area includes 15 counties: Chatham County, Durham County, Edgecombe County, Franklin County, Granville County, Harnett County, Johnston County, Lee County, Moore County, Nash County, Orange County, Person County, Vance County, Wake County, and Warren County. Durham County, Orange County and Wake County are the three principal counties that make up the core of the Research Triangle and include the principal cities of Durham and Raleigh and the principal town of Chapel Hill.
